READING INSTRUCTION 30%

Content Breakdown

  • Phonics & Phonemic Awareness: Identifying letters, sounds, segmenting & blending, alphabetic principle (upper & lower case letters)
  • Reading Fluency techniques: model reading, group reading, repeated reading, paired reading, silent reading
  • Oral/Reading Comprehension: pre-, during, post-reading comprehension strategies
  • Establishing a classroom reading culture: organising class library, establishing a book borrowing system, promoting out-of-class reading

Teacher Competencies

  • Implement systematic phonics instruction
  • Apply strategies to improve learner reading speed and accuracy
  • Teach learners to use critical reading strategies for deep understanding

  • Revising: Common grammatical errors (e.g., subject-verb agreement, tense consistency)

  • Grammar: subject-verb agreement, tense consistency, pronoun agreement, word usage, sentence fragments & run-ons, punctuation, syntax
